Ciao amici! The Airfix A01046V 1/72 Scale Fiat G.50 Italian WW2 Fighter Aircraft Model Kit is a thing of beauty, just like our beloved Regia Aeronautica aircraft. The Fiat G.50 was our first low wing, all metal single seat fighter and a significant aircraft in our Air Force history. It had an enclosed cockpit and retractable undercarriage, although some of our pilots didn't like the latter. During the Battle of Britain, our early versions of the G.50 were not able to match the Spitfires and Hurricanes of the Royal Air Force. However, in North Africa and the Mediterranean Theatre, our pilots showed what the G.50 was truly capable of in the air superiority, bomber escort, and ground attack roles. The G.50 was rugged and performed exceptionally well at low altitudes. By late 1942, it was outmatched by the Allies, and remaining aircraft were used for training support roles. Grazie mille!
